According to this news report, Viviette Applewhite, the lead petitioner in the case challenging the PA Photo ID Law, just received her birth certificate.
Was it a mere coincidence that, after trying unsuccessfully to obtain her birth certificate from the Commonwealth for several years, it arrived just a few weeks after she sued the Commonwealth?
UPDATE (7/26/12): Through trial testimony yesterday, we learned that the last name on Ms. Applewhite’s birth certificate is her birth name, Brooks. Ms. Applewhite was later adopted and changed her last name to Applewhite. So, even though Ms. Applewhite obtained her birth certificate, she still cannot use it to obtain a PennDOT ID because the name on the certificate does not match the name on her voter registration record or the name on her social security account.
